As part of our Diversity week offerings, Digital Risk hosted a Break the Glass Women in Business mini-Conference on Thursday, July 27th. This conference brought together a group of distinguished women leaders from all lines of business here at DR to participate in a morning of mentoring and networking where we could share ideas and learn from each other.
The gathering started with opening comments from Donna Corley. Donna is Chief Risk Officer for Freddie Mac’s Single-Family Business, overseeing the analysis and management of potential risks to the business. She encouraged women not to be afraid to throw their names in the hat for assignments and positions that they feel passionate about, as well as being willing to reinvent themselves to meet the changing needs of the business, and to accomplish their goals.
Two panels were conducted that proved to be insightful and encouraging to all in attendance. The first was “Power of Women In Business: The Way Forward” moderated by Kristina Cmorey, Senior VP of Capital Markets and Originations with Julie Blessyn, Head of North America Legal Transactions, Staci Brazalovich, AVP of Originations, Shelia Latiff, Director Line of Business Leader, and Katie Terry, Assistant General Counsel. They shared with us their thoughts on what to look for in a leadership opportunity, managing our expectations in a leadership role and reasons for pursuing leadership.
Afterwards, we enjoyed the panel entitled “Leadership Disrupted: The Perfect Storm”, moderated by Kim Lanham, Senior VP of Marketing and Client Services. Panelists included: Traci Cox, VP of Origination and Secondary, Melanie Flowers, VP of Operational Excellence and Transformation, Cristina Hernandez, AVP of Originations, Jamie Shue, Director of Advisory Services and Kathy White AVP, Due Diligence. Some of the topics discussed included identifying disruptions in leadership, seeing disruptions as assets, using them as our strengths and developing innovative ways of thinking outside the box, paving the way for creativity and problem solving.
Having held a variety of titles and responsibilities throughout their careers here at DR, these women inspired us to create, innovate, regenerate and use our strengths to inspire each other and our teams, grow our areas of expertise, develop new ways to solve the challenges we face, and use our full potential to Break the Glass in all we do.
Much thanks to the Kim Lanham and the team who put together this informative and motivating conference. We look forward to other events and opportunities in the future.
